Banksy, the famous anonymous street artist, stunned the art world last week when one of his pieces began to self destruct moments after it was purchased. Photos from the event captured stunned art enthusiasts as the painting Girl with Balloon, which had just sold for $1.4 million at Sotheby’s auction, began to shred in its frame. Banksy released a video shortly after the stunt revealing that a shredder was built inside the painting. Along with the video, he included a famous Picasso quote: “The urge to destroy is also a creative urge.”
